Frequently Asked Questions
What procedures should be followed for member exemptions for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for Able Bodied Adults Without Dependents (ABAWD)?
ABAWDs may only receive SNAP benefits for three months within a three-year period. The current three-year period ends December 31, 2020. ABAWDs can keep their SNAP if they (1) live in a waived area; (2) are exempt; or (3) work or go to school enough hours.
In order to be exempt from the time limit because the individual is medically certified as physically or mentally unfit for employment, an ABAWD Time Limit Medical Exemption form must be completed by a qualified provider (defined at the bottom of the form) and submitted on behalf of the individual to the individual's home County Assistance Office.
