CommonGround and Decision Support Centers

Community Care is dedicated to supporting recovery and wellness competence and culture. CommonGround is an approach and an online program designed by Pat Deegan, PhD & Associates to support shared decision making in the context of a psychiatric medication clinic. Integrated into a peer-staffed Decision Support Center (DSC) in the waiting area of the medication clinic, CommonGround:

• Supports members’ self-determination
• Increases access to resources and peer support to make decisions regarding care
• Empowers individuals in their use of medication as a tool in the recovery process
• Develops truly collaborative relationships between practitioners and members

Several Community Care staff have been certified as CommonGround Specialists who work with provider agencies to provide training and technical assistance to agencies to implement and support a DSC.
