Essential Services
This page is intended to be a resource for our provider network to find answers to critical questions during the COVID-19 crisis. As we receive more information, Community Care will be updating the site, so check back frequently for the most up-to-date information. As new questions are added, they will appear at the top of the list.
Are behavioral health services considered essential and life sustaining services?
Yes, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, both mental health and substance use services are considered life sustaining. As such, those entities that support, authorize and/or provide behavioral health services are exempt from the Governor’s directive asking for the closure of all non-essential businesses. Behavioral health services and supports are critical to the health and wellness of our communities and providers are expected to continue offering these services through the duration of the COVID-19 crisis.
